We’re Going Camping!

Hey, it’s Maria.

Help!!!  I’m drowning……..in projects.

Here’s a list of things I want to complete this weekend.  (Read on after you’ve picked yourself off the floor laughing at this list!!!)

1.  Mystery Stole

2. August Socks that Rock socks

3.  Peacock Shawl

4. Kauni Project (I know I promised a blog post on this one.)

5.  Lady Eleanor Shawl

Can I do this all this weekend???  Not a chance.  Boy, is that a lot of blog fodder, because I haven’t told you about any of them.  My only problem is that you won’t see any of them finished for a long time, because I’m not even close to finishing one project.

Besides, we’re going camping this weekend.  We’re going with our Pastor and wife (my favorite sidekick), their four kids and dog.  Then we’ll add Honey, four of our kids and another dog.  Doesn’t that make you want to come too???  We have all these kids that are addicted to video games, computers, TV, etc.   And we’re going here…..

Do you think we have a problem???  If we tell the kids to go for a walk, they’ll look at us like we’ve grown two heads.  Don’t they know that’s what God gave them feet for?

Fortunately for us, the nights are supposed to be nice and cool.  Even the most jaded teenager loves a campfire and s’mores!!!  Several years ago we were in the same place on the same weekend and God treated us to the best light display ever.  The Northern Lights were unbelievable.

We also have a trump card:   PAINTBALL!!!

Hey Lexi, you do know that I’d never hang up on you, don’t you?

Driving Me Crazy!!!

Hey, it’s Maria.

Guess who’s driving me crazy?

It’s the blonde. No, not the little boy; the little girl. She decided she was done sleeping at 6:30 this morning. I am NOT a morning person. The little boy is quite cute too, isn’t he? He’s kid #5. I haven’t decided what to call the kids yet for blog purposes.

On the knitting front, I’m going to have to dig in the archives since the camera is still in the motorhome, and I’m too lazy to go get it. But, do not fear! I have more Socks that Rock. First up is a pair of basic cable socks in the Jingle Bells Rock colorway. This color is currently available on STR’s website.

Oh, you wanted to see the cable. Here it is.

I don’t remember what I used for a pattern. I think I just took a basic sock pattern and added a cable.

Yes, I do knit more than just sock, but you’ll have to take my word for it for now. In the interim, I’ll show you one more pair of socks.

I didn’t think these were the Sherbet colorway, but maybe they are. I used a pattern from Sensational Knit Socks by Charlene Schurch.

These are the socks I wear with my clear clogs. I’m trying to embarrass my kids, but that’s almost impossible. I’m known as the craziest mom among their friends. What an honor!!!

I think my blog partner has been attacked by a pile of killer textbooks. Although, when I talked to her last night, she was watching “How to Marry a Millionaire”. I think if she was going to do that, she should have gone to Pepperdine or Harvard.

Maybe the next post will be WIPs! I have tons of them. I thought about lining them up around the perimeter of my bedroom and doing a row a day on each of them.

Hey Lexi, is my cooking looking better???

Vacation Knitting

Hey, it’s Maria.

After I finished this post, I cheated and found a photo of the August Socks that Rock kit.  Man,  I need to get home!!!!!

Wouldn’t you like to know what I’m knitting on vacation???

I’ll bet you’d like to see what’s behind my Kauni yarn? It’s a project that hasn’t been done by anyone but me. Unfortunately, I’m going to wait until I get home and give this project a post of its own.

I can show you a crummy picture of the socks I’m working on. They’re the Waving Lace Socks from the cover of Favorite Socks by Interweave Press .

Don’t even comment on my disgusting feet. I need a pedicure. I’ve been carrying this project around in this cute Sock Bug bag. It was purchased on Etsy. I don’t know who the seller was because Mom bought it for me. Thanks Mom!!!

Here’s the story of our vacations. We purchased a motorhome in 2004, and our goal is to travel the whole United States (minus Alaska and Hawaii) in our bus. We’re getting there. Here’s where we’ve been……

and here’s what we’ve got left…..

Only 15 more states. I think we have most of the really hot ones out of the way. At least if its hot, we can go in the ocean.

I’m not sure where we were when I did the last post, but we stayed at the Kentucky Horse Park. It’s a world I know nothing about. All those gorgeous horses and miles of white fence.

One thing I’ve learned on our summer travels is that this is an amazing country. I want my children to appreciate the sacrifices our Founding Fathers made. I’ve traveled other parts of the world and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Freedom of speech and religion is so important.

I’ve learned one other thing while traveling. Kids fight! Whether they’re in a car or a 45 foot motorhome, there will still be bickering. Isn’t it nice to know that some things in life are guaranteed???

For everyone that left comments, I’m sorry I haven’t responded, but internet access has been very sketchy. Thank you for every one!!!

Hey Lexi, what’s the topic of your first speech?

She Misses Me?????

OK, did my college girl already admit that she misses me? I’m shocked. I thought it would take a while. Hallelujah!!!

Oh, yeah……you came for knitting. How about some more Socks that Rock? This is the pair that almost kicked my butt. The pattern is Pomatomus by the famous Cookie A.

I used Socks that Rock in Lemongrass. I’m not exactly sure if I used light or medium weight. These socks seemed to take forever.

I swore I’d never make them again, but I’ve been seeing more on Ravelry. I think these socks are like childbirth. They’re painful, but you forget. Oh, shoot……I have five kids. I may need to make 4 more pairs.

Oh, you want to know about the vacation? We’re in Nashville. It’s still almost 100 degrees. We’re going school shopping at the outlet mall today. Last night we went to the Gaylord Opryland for dinner. They have fountains that are lit and synched (how do you spell that???) to music. I think we’re going back tonight and I’m taking pictures.

Have you noticed by now that Lexi and I end our posts with a question to each other? You’re very observant!

Hey Lexi, how was Loops?
