Finishing is Good

Today I have for you my last FO of 2007.

It’s my Mrs. Greenjeans, modified from this pattern on Knitty. This is actually my second Mr. Greenjeans. The first one is here. I used the basic pattern for this one, but instead of the cable rib, I used a lace pattern. I was a little concerned because the hem was rolling, but a quick steam block took care of that.

Here’s an interesting coincidence.

Both elbows pooled green on one side, purple on the other, in the same place. I couldn’t have done that if I’d tried.

So, on to 2008. What am I knitting? I started this. It’s irtfa’a, by Anne Hanson. I’m using the same yarn she did. It’s Blue Moon Fiber Arts Laci from the Raven series, color Thraven. I hate to even write this out loud, but I’m seriously considering being monogamous, and knitting the whole thing in January. But there are so many other things out there to tempt me, so we’ll see.

Now on to a meme. I’ve been tagged by Shells. So here goes.

Since I only started the blog in August, I’m not sure how many FO’s I did, but I’ll list what I can think of off the top of my head.

5 pairs of Socks that Rock from the sock club

1 pair of socks from Woolgirl.

2 shawls

2 Mr. Greenjeans

2 felted bags

1 baby hat

1 sweater for Honey

I know there are more, but I’m not very good at documenting my work.

On to the meme:

Best FO of the year. I’m going to have to say my Wing Of the Moth. There’s nothing more satisfying than blocking lace.

Best FO of the year made by a blog you link to. I’m going to have to say Irtfa’a by Anne Hanson. The photos almost took my breath away.

Best yarn you tried. Fiesta Boomerang. I made two sweaters using this amazing yarn.

Best new knitting technique. A crocheted steek, hands down. It was really fun, in a scary sort of way.

Top 6 things that inspired me this year.

1. Blogs. It’s amazing what a wealth of information is found in knitting blogs. Almost every day, I read a blog and think, “I want to knit that.”

2. All my knitting books. Every time I look through one of my books, I think, “I want to knit that.”

3. My shelf of yarn that I look at as I lie in bed. I see a particular yarn I purchased and think, “I want to knit that.”

4. Ravelry, of course. Every time I filter through Ravelry, I think, “I want to knit that.”

5. The reaction to my Damask Kauni. It totally blew me away. It’s really put the pressure on to finish it. Every time I look at it, I think, “I want to finish knitting that.”

6. My laundry room. Every time I walk in the laundry room, I think, “I want to knit!!!”

The designer who most amazed and inspired me this year. No question, it was Anne Hanson. Oh, and I have to add The Rainey Sisters. Their work is amazing.

What are my knitting resolutions for me and my blog? First of all, I won’t make resolutions with regard to my knitting. I have enough have to’s in my life. Knitting is my fun. I never know what wild hare will hit me at midnight. I love starting projects, and it’s usually on a whim. However, I’m in the mood to knit something with amazing cables. I’d also like to make some Latvian mittens. I’ve looked at them forever, and a couple of days ago I decided I wanted some!

I’m not going to start a yarn diet. I have one diet in my life, and I can’t give up food and yarn. If I was using the grocery money to buy yarn, there would be a problem. But since that’s not the case, I’ll buy yarn when I darn well please.

I’m really going to make an effort to work on some WIP’s. I’ve got some really good ones going, some blogged, and some not! But, I’ll only work on something when the mood strikes.

As for the blog, I’ve had a couple of conversations with my blog partner, and she’s reluctant to say the least. We started the blog before Lexi left for college as a way to stay connected. Honestly, I think her cell phone is working much better. I’d love to have her continue to be my blog partner, but it has to be her idea. Again, there are a lot of have to’s in her life, and knitting is supposed to be fun, so no pressure, Lexi! I’ll still talk to you on the phone every day.

I also want to finish a bunch of quilt tops. Judy Laquidara has started a Sunday Stash report, so we can report on FO’s, used stash, stash enhancement, etc. Maybe that will kick me in the rear where my quilting is concerned. I also need to get that Gammill going and finish some quilts.

I wish I didn’t need sleep. I’ve been going to bed at 2 AM, because late night is the only time my house is quiet. I get up about 7:30, to get the kids to school. I read once that when you’re sleep deprived, you have the mental capacity of a 7 year old. I asked Honey one day how he felt about leaving 5 kids with someone with that mental capacity. Yikes!

So, Happy New Year!!! I’m off to knit or quilt or do laundry, or something.

When I grow up, I want to knit like you…
Or maybe, when my kids grow up I will be able to knit like you?

I donno, I’m sleep deprived, too… so something like that!

I love Mrs. Greenjeans, and that is too cool that both sleeves pooled the same way

    Yup, your Kauni has a following, a public…. ;^)

I love your Greenjeans — prettier than the original! And I am glad you are finishing your fab Kauni. I love wearing mine (the yarn REALLY softened with wet blocking) even tho it is not the Kauni of my dreams! I will end up with a Damask Kauni vest I think because it took much more yarn than I anticipated. Happy New Year!

I love your interpretation of Greenjeans! It’s beautiful.

    Laundry? What’s laundry?…

The Kauni is stunning – I love the picot hem. And the new Greenjeans is beautiful too.

I have been coming back again and again to marvel at the beautiful Damask Kauni, and I think I want to give it a shot. I’ve scoured the internet and cannot find a copy of that pattern, but I’m going to take it all the way back to Dale of Norway. It’s either that or I start charting the stitch pattern in Photoshop using your photos.

Can’t wait to see what you are doing with the sleeves. Will they be the same pattern?
I’m just beginning the edge of this sweater in the teal blue colorway.

You are doing a great job on this!
