Birds, Bees, and Quilting

I just finished piecing a quilt.  And no, my suitcase still isn’t unpacked.  But it’s not going anywhere either.  It’s just sitting there quietly.

It’s a Schnibbles pattern by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co.  Can you tell from the photo what size it is?  Actually, it’s only about 31 X 36 inches.

These Schnibbles patterns use little packets of 5 inch squares called charm packs.  This pattern used two charm packs.  I usually order the charm packs (and lots of other fabric) from Fat Quarter Shop.  It’s a fun way to make a quilt using a new line of fabric for about $15. This particular line is Swanky by Chez Moi for Moda Fabric.

If you’re looking for some fun free projects, check out Moda Bake Shop.  There are lots of ideas for all of their precut fabrics.

So far today I’ve only done one really stupid thing.  I got a call at 1:23 from the office of Frankie’s school.  “Um. Mrs H.  School had early release today.  We were out at 1:05.”   Shoot!!!  And yes, I was still in my pajamas.  Fortunately, we only live a mile from the school.

On the home school front we had a very interesting day. Ms In Charge learned how babies were made.  Just a few quotes!

“I thought you just kissed.”

“I’m think I’m going to barf.

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to have nightmares tonight.”

I hope she recovers.

Monkey Business

Frankie:  Hey mom, can I have some of that monkey bread in my lunch?

Mom:  What?  Monkey Bread?  Ohhhhh….you mean banana bread.  Sure!

My chuckle for the morning.

I’d Like Some Cheese With My Whine

I’m knitting like crazy.  I really am.  But it’s killing me.

I’m almost finished with my first sleeve on my Damask Kauni.  It’s so hard to finish something that I’m not going to wear.  It’s destined to live here:

Oh, well.  At least it has friends.  But a sweater wants to be worn and cuddled.  At least in my dining room it will be admired.  I think when it’s done I’ll really enjoy just looking at it.

Hiding behind Kauni (besides the shawl from Helen) is the other project that I’m working on that I can’t wait to finish!!!  It’s Cluaranach by Anne Hanson.  I ordered the yarn and pattern a long time ago, and for some reason it’s been calling me.  I started it and wasn’t thrilled because I had to knit in pattern on the back side instead of purling.  I’m lazy.  I like that break every other row.  Then I discovered that it’s only patterned on the back for the first few repeats.  Now I’m sailing.

I’m using the recommended yarn, Lanas Puras Melosa, and it’s heavenly.  I’m almost finished with the first half.  Here’s a rather uninspired photo of it.

I suppose I should unpack my suitcase.  It’s been sitting there since Saturday night.  And for some odd reason, my family thinks they should have dinner tonight.  (Last night the kids that were home ate cereal.  Hey, Nascar was on!)

Startitis has hit again too!  I’m trying to drown it in Diet Coke, but it’s hard.  Oh, and the quilting bug has surfaced after being gone for a very long time.

But first, I have to go be an adult for a few hours.  Thanks for letting me whine about my Damask Kauni.  I’m going to finish that thing if it kills me.  Do you think anyone would notice if it only had one sleeve?
