Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Craziness & Then Quiet

We had a crazy, loud, fun weekend.  We celebrated Frankie’s 11th birthday by camping. There was four wheeling, campfires, eating, paintballing, and a whole host of other fun activities.  A good time was had by all.

Then came Monday.  I stayed in the bus and sent everyone else home to go back to school. My sister stayed with me and we had a quilting marathon.  I’m working on my Starlit Evening.  This is the 6th quilt I’ve worked on from Living Large 2.  For fabric, I chose Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda.  I don’t have all of the colors included yet, but here’s an idea of what the quilt will look like.

I also finished a knitting project that I started in February of 2009.

This is Cluaranach by Anne Hanson of Knitspot.  I haven’t blocked it yet, but it turned out lovely except for one thing.  I’ll show you!

I hadn’t learned two years ago that it was necessary to knit from two skeins at once when using hand dyed yarn.  I’m thinking this will be overdyed.  I put way too much work into it to leave it like this.  It’s a well written pattern, and I’m not sure why it took me over two years to finish it.  Next week, it will hit the dye table!

I also started spinning some of the roving I dyed a couple of weeks ago.  Its wool and silk and I think I’m going to like it.

I also started a fun scarf with some of my handspun.  I’d forgotten how addictive entrelac is!

I’m always amazed at how much I can do when I’m not distracted by petty things such as internet and housework!!!  It was a nice break!  I really needed to finish something.  I was feeling very unproductive.

And now it’s time to dig through the old projects to see what else I should finish.

  1. I love the thought of having the “bus” as a retreat spot. I need one of those! :)

  2. It’s going to be gorgeous!!! I’m tempted to make a quilt as well…I loved how the table toppers turned out!

  3. Oh my. I sure hope you can dye your wrap to fix that!! That’s something I would have never thought of either. Learn the hard way, right? Love all your other projects and the fact you and your sister spent some quiet time together. Happy (belated) Birthday, Frankie!

  4. Love the quilt pattern and everything else you’ve done. I haven’t visited your blog all summer and it’s always a treat to see all your projects. Lovely wrap. Thanks for the tip about the knitting from two skeins for hand dyed yarn. I didi n’t know that either.

  5. Curious about the entrelac scarf pattern. Its it publicly available?

  6. So nice that you got to spend time with your sister and get stuff done. I’m jealous that you have an RV to escape and sew. I would just love to do that.
