Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

What a Difference a Day (or Two) Makes!

Hey, it’s Maria.

I can’t even believe how much a girl can get done when she’s all alone. No kids. No Honey. No puppy. And most of all, no internet!!! Running away was a very good idea.

The first thing I did was clean the bus. I didn’t want to look at toothpaste in the sink and fingerprints on every surface. I only cleaned for about 45 minutes. It’s not done very well.

I learned a few things. Did you know that Minnesota Public Radio plays jazz on Saturday nights? All you Minnesota people are probably rolling their eyes at me right now. I also learned that a big thunderstorm in the middle of the night leads to strange thoughts, like “What happens to the electrical system of the bus if it gets hit by lightning?” I got up and unplugged my Bernina, just in case. I also wondered how long I’d last without a cell phone. I did have mine along. I fielded a few calls from kids like, “Mom, where’s Georgies leash?” and “Mom even though Strep B is contagious, can I go to a friends house?” I also confirmed that I still LOVE silence. I like me too. I don’t argue with myself. I do talk to myself though.

OK, on to what I accomplished in 48 hours. (I did sleep both nights!) I fixed the fringe on Lady Eleanor. It’s officially done. I put the other sleeve in Honey’s Rowan denim sweater. It’s officially done. I finished my first Waterfall sock from the Woolgirl Sock Club.

The yarn is so yummy! It’s sportweight, by Miss Babs. I’ll wait while you go buy some at Woolgirl. Add some other stuff to the order too. Go ahead!!! I finished it in spite of some puppy teeth marks in the cable of my addi turbos. That’s $15 that dog owes me. I even started the second sock, but I’m going to go find some different needles to transfer it to.

I only did about a dozen rows on my Damask Kauni.  My goal was to finish the body.  That was the only goal that I had for the weekend that I didn’t meet.  I don’t know why but I’m not in the mood to knit on it.

Warning!!! Non knitting projects ahead!!!

I got a lot more done too. I had this pillow that had little brown dots in it. They were supposed to be black!.

So I covered each little brown dot with a heat fix crystal. Here’s what I used. It’s one of those “as seen on TV” things that actually works very well. The whole thing just sparkles. Diamonds really are a girls best friend, especially when they’re fake.

Oh, I also had a guest while I was in my motorhome. It was one of my blog stalkers. I don’t know how she found me, because I really was out in the middle of nowhere, wasn’t I, A Betty? We knit, drank coffee, and ate. Oh, and we visited. Perfect!

And now for the biggest project of my 48 hour break.

I made a quilt for kid #4. The bright colors were so much fun to work with. The fabric is Spring Fling by Moda. I’m a huge Moda fan. Their stuff is just the best.

I used Heat N Bond Lite and ironed all the applique shapes on. Then I bottonholed around all the flowers with Sulky or Madiera Rayon thread. Now all I have to do is quilt it and get her room wallpapered. Yuck! And now for the cute puppy picture. I’ve not done one for a while.

She just got a haircut, so we can see her eyes again.

My break was just what I needed. Thanks Honey!!! Now it’s time to put away last weeks laundry and start this weeks. I really should come up with a gourmet dinner too, since Honey would be thrilled with that and I owe him.

Hey Lexi, you aren’t going to shoot me for adding quilt content to the blog, are you?

  1. Hooray for you! Sounds like you had a wonderful time and got SO much done! Your pillow is fantatic. Love the socks, and the quiltting. Your Lady Eleanor is great. Lucky you!

  2. That’s an awful lot of productivity!

My dog owes me so much money I think she’s going to have to take out a loan. She is a bit of a yarn snob and always goes for the most expensive stuff she can find.

  3. excuse me what kind of dog is that? is it a mix with a poodle?

    cheers
