Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Further Evidence…

…that I’m crazy.

Hi, it’s Maria.

Here’s one little 45 minute project I did this weekend.

Yes, I made a sock in 45 minutes, but don’t get too impressed. Here’s why:

It’s my sock blocker key chain, ordered from The Loopy Ewe. It came with the pattern. My 6 year old son wants one for his backpack. The yarn is leftover Socks that Rock. It was really fun. I want to make more.

My blog partner is going to shoot me for this one. It was a 15 minute project.

I made fall dog collars. Sorry Lexi, but it was really fun and easy. Oh, you want a closer look?

Pretty cute huh?

For those of you who didn’t know I was crazy, I present more evidence. I watch Nascar. I love Nascar. I knit during Nascar. My favorite driver won today. (Before you decide to hate me for liking Jeff Gordon, remember I’m a knitter, so I can’t be all bad.)

One thing Nascar is good for is three or four hours of knitting time. It’s the only TV I watch, and nobody is allowed to bug me! So I worked on Mr. Greenjeans. I’m really enjoying this project. It’s knitting up so quickly.

This is a top down pattern, so I’m working on the bottom rib. I’m already thinking about ways to vary this pattern and use it again. I also found someone to make a funky glass button for me. The sleeve stitches are on waste yarn, so I’ll finish those and do the front band. There’s no seaming!!!

I’m loving those cables. An added bonus in the pattern are instructions for cabling with out a cable needle. I usually don’t use a cable needle, but these instructions are a little different and I really like this method.

It’s raining here tonight, and as you can see from my photos, we’ve got lots of red leaves. There are some trees on our yard that are bare already. I need to get some more sweaters finished. I have to get back to my Damask Kauni. I’d like to finish Mr Greenjeans first, because it has 3/4 sleeves, and I could wear it soon. Then it will be back to Kauni.

Hey Lexi, are you excited to come home to see me or your own bed?

  1. I can’t wait for you to get back to the Kauni. I’ve been squinting at your photos to see if I can draw up the chart from them. I think it’s the best use of the yarn that I’ve seen, and believe me, I’ve looked 🙂 Mr Greennjeans is nice too, though – lovely yarn.

  2. Wow, your Mr Greenjeans is amazing! I love your colour choice. :0)

  3. I found your blog through kitchencotton.blogspot last week and was chatting about it at The Yarnery tonight and then I came home and saw that the Rainey Sisters are on to you and your Kauni. I love your blog it cracks me up. Thanks for doing it. It can’t be easy to fit in amongst school, laundry, a large family and a dog, but I appreciate it.

  4. Hey!!
I love the mini sock you made! I am wondering what is the colorway of that yarn? It is soooo pretty!

    Minty

  5. Just to make you feel better, you aren’t the only crazy knitter out there. My first (and only, so far) little socks were a pair using two colors–what was I thinking? Next time, if there is one, I’ll use one color yarn.

    Your little socks look spectacular!

  6. Planning to buy the purrrfect yarn for Mr.Greenjeans at the Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool next weekend. Isn’t it the neatest cardi? Hope I can do it justice, I’m pretty new to knitting. You are doing a fantastic job, can’t wait to see the F.O.
Just discovered your blog and am loving your taste and similar insanity based lifestyle. Misery loves company they say!
