Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Drum Roll…..

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I want you to know that I finished not one, but two things.  So without further ado, let’s get on with the show.

First, coming down the catwalk, finishing off at 746 stitches, is the Koigu Shawl of Many Colors!

She’s not blocked yet, but she’s finished.  I had to bind it off with yarnovers in several spots or the bindoff would have been too tight.  I’m debating going and finding pins.  Do I really need this in the middle of the hotel room floor?

And the other project?  Not nearly as impressive, but I love them, is my Crosshatch Lace Socks.

We had several hours of flying time yesterday.  I had half of the shawl left to bind off and about half of the foot of my sock.  I finished the last 4 rows of the toe in the hotel room last night.  I did a round toe for the first time, and while I like the way it looks, it doesn’t feel right.  I’m not going to redo them, but I won’t use this toe again.  Just to recap, these socks are the Crosshatch Lace socks from More Sensational Knit Socks.  The yarn is from the last installment of the Rockin Sock Club 2007.

If you’re just checking in, we spent the weekend with our college girl.  I got her Spiderweb Shawl.  It’s gorgeous.  I get to block two lace things next week!  Last night we flew to Florida where Honey is doing flight training and I’m knitting.  It’s about noon and I’m heading to the pool, with my knitting, of course!

But before I go, I bring you True Confessions: Sock Edition.  Let me just tell you, this is ridiculous.  It’s a good thing I live in Minnesota and wear my socks 9 months of the year.  So, here goes.  Try not to laugh too hard at me.

Don’t try this at home:

I’m knitting four socks at once on one circ. Here’s where I got the idea. I bow to this woman. She has eight socks on two circs. My four are making me swear. I’m going to work them to the heel just to say I did, and then I quit!!! I’m knitting them one at a time. Here begins my list of socks. I’ll start from left to right in my box.

1. Tempted Yarn Punk Junkie

2. Opal Ladybug

3. Madelintosh color Plum Tree

4. Color Crayon from Karen’s Heavenly Creations.

5. Monkeys in Socks That Rock Thistle

6. Ampersand in Colinette Jitterbug

7. Cedar Creek in Socks That Rock Holly Days

8. Jaywalkers in ?

9. Charade in ?

10. Thelonius in Tanzanite

11. Lace and Diamond Socks in Reynolds Soft Sea Wool

12. Waving Lace Socks in Fleece Artist Basic Merino Sock

13. Basic Socks with Silver Glitz

14. Crosshatch Lace Socks in Bella Coola Socks That Rock  Finished!

and the mother of all socks:

15. A knit Christmas stocking from a Vogue Holiday magazine.

I’m off to lay in the sun and knit on a sock!  There’s one more True Confessions Edition left and that one will leave you wondering if there is one screw in my head that’s not loose!   Have a great day!

  1. YAY!!

I love that shawl, just love it!

The socks are pretty doggone snazzy, too!

    ; )

  2. I don’t think you are crazy at all for knitting 4 socks at once on the magic loop. I’m doing the same thing. I’m doing both pair at once. I love the magic loop method. I will post an image soon. I just started on the Feb 10, 2008 and still working on the toes. I’m using Queen kahuna’s Crazy Toes and Heels method to knit them. They are made to my foot measurements, so they will fit my feet like a glove. I will try to remember to venture back as my progress goes on. I will post an image on my site soon. Congrats to you! You can do it. Your not crazy just like challenges, I know I do.

  3. OH MY GOODNESS! holy SOCKS– you must really love turning heels! Congratulations on your two finished items, you definitely delivered on your promise! Do you have some sort of schedule in place to finish the socks you’ve got going? Bah, I take that back. We all know that schedules + knitting are never fun! Happy knitting, I’m glad you had fun with your daughter 🙂

  4. the crosshatch lace socks are stunning!!!!!

  5. WOW! That shawl is fantastic! The colors are stunning. And those socks – the blues are deep. I am in awe of sock knitters – that scares the dickens out of me. Too timid to try. Wear both in great health!

  6. Everything you posted is just beautiful!

I’m looking forward to the last edition of True Confessions. No, not because I’m tired of it*, but because I can’t imagine what could be left.

*Actually I’m kind of jealous of all the gorgeous projects you have at your fingertips to choose from.

  7. Seems like the multiple socks on one needle would be much easier with some serious yarn management! Threading each ball of yarn through it’s own hole would keep them from getting too twisted. You’ve put the bug in the back of my head, I’m sure I’ll try this at some point now!

  8. Wow, that 4 socks at once thing is totally crazy! I am in awe. Also in awe of the shawl–that thing is huge and gorgeous. Congratulations!

  9. Congrats! I’m so proud of you. I love the shawl and Crosshatch socks! I chuckled when I saw the 4 socks – but hey, if that works, more power to you! Hope you’re having fun and looking to see more ‘completed’ projects…

  10. Don’t even know ya, but I just had to say I am coming out of lurker land to ooh and aaah at the 4 sock dealie bob!! Not only have you made my self esteem soar because you have a f.e.w. more UFO’s than I do, but seriously, that 4 sock thing? Wow!!!

  11. I really love your Koigu-Shawl 🙂
    Kind regards
