Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

First of all, thank you for all your advice. I really like the look of wood for my sewing room, but I was afraid it was going to be cold. I thought I’d like the feel of carpet better.

So what am I going to do? I’m putting in wood and I’m going to look for a runner. A carpet runner is the perfect size to put on the floor the length of my countertop workspace.

The wood is chestnut, and it’s quite a bit harder than oak. The photo isn’t quite accurate. There is less yellow in my wood. Don’t you just love my floral carpet???

It’s contest time!!! My 100th post is coming up. (And you’re still reading all about my extremely boring scintilating life.) So, leave a comment and tell me:

1. What you like about the blog.

or

2. What you’d like to see or hear about in the blog.

(If you don’t like the blog, please don’t tell me. I have 5 kids that love to tell me what they don’t like. That’s enough to keep me humble, thanks!)

The prize will be yarn. Duh! I’ll tell you in the 99th post (the next one) what the prize is. I’d tell you now, but I really haven’t thought about it. You have until April 1 at 10 PM Central to leave a comment. I must be a fool to let you comment on April Fools Day.
Has there been knitting? Not much. Last night I finally sat down and knit for several hours. My legs were still so stiff, I didn’t feel like moving any more. I worked on my stealth project. I’ll show you the yarn but what it is and who it’s for is top secret.

This yarn is Tempted Glam Grrl, color Eclipse. It’s a sock yarn that’s merino, silk, nylon, and silver. Yes that’s real silver.

I’m not sure I’m loving the project, but we’ll see. You want to know where I got it. Why, at Loops, of course.

Now I have another dilemma. My first Year of Lace project showed up a couple of hours ago. Since people are complaining about spoilers, you can look right here if you want to see my yarn wound. If you don’t want to see it, don’t look!!!! The color is is little off in the photo, but I thought it was hilarious that it’s the exact color of my nail polish. Is that God telling me to start on it? That’s my dilemma. Do I start the project, or do I finish my Waves in the Square Shawl? Guess what I’m thinking?

Let me just say one more thing, and then I’m off to start my new shawl finish my Waves in the Square Shawl. I’m sick of reality. So, therefore, I’m going to take a bunch of my UFO’s off of the sidebar and put them back to sleep. I don’t want to look at that long list every time I post. I’m fully aware of all of the crap beautiful projects that I have going. So, no, I didn’t finish a gazillion things. I’m just deleting them! I like my reality!

  1. What don’t I love about your blog? As a mom of (only) three you are my inspiration that I can do more, more, more knitting! I love seeing your WIP’s and I don’t care at all that you have lots of UFO’s — girl you have tons of FO’s and they are all beautiful! I also love that you post so often….your beautiful work, family and humor brighten many of my days! Early congrats on your 100th post, maybe next you’ll inspire me to start a blog!!

  2. I so agree with Allyson. . . but I only have two kids and am still amazed at your ability to produce beautiful knitting (love the kauni and your adaptation) as well as your lovely studio and wallpapering ability. You must use your time well and still get everything done with the family in mind. Love all the bits of your blog I’ve seen so far. Thanks so much.

  3. I’m with Allyson as well, what don’t I love about your blog? I only have college daughter and I find that hard enough, never mind 5!!! You are truly inspiring to me as a knitter too when I see all that you do πŸ™‚

Congrualtions on the upcoming 100th post; I look forward to reading hundreds more!

    Karen

  4. I love all the vibrant colors that you knit with! I think some of us (me) tend to stick to the same old colors for whatever reason and its very refreshing to see the bright cheerful colors on your blog.

  5. I started reading from post one I think when you and Lexi were asking questions. I kind of thought it funny that ya’ll never replied with an answer. I miss lexi, but I still love your blog. I like your reality of it all and that you keep it up no matter what is going on. I love your honesty in that you have a minor wip problem and that you can’t resist the new yarn.

Congrats on 100 real soon. I missed my 100th post. I think I was a dork and it was a swap question post or some such silliness. Oh well I can mark other important marks.

  6. Durn, I even like your new wallpaper (and that you are using it as the header to the blog today!) I guarantee that with just a DH, 2 dogs and a cat right now… my life is more boring than yours! I do really enjoy seeing your projects and your photographt and you’ve introduced me to several yarns I had been totally not seeing before you made beautiful projects with them! Maybe Lexi could be a guest blogger!!!

  7. I love that new yarn color!!! It’s fate, and you should just start it now.

  8. Congrats on your upcoming 100th post.

I always feel uplifted after checking in here; you’re always cheery and honest. Thanks for sharing the WIPs and glimpses of quilting. Your productivity is inspiring – there’s no chance of having an FO without having a WIP first!

  9. I love to see your beautiful knitting, that I will never be able to do :-). Of course I love the quilt related posts. Oh and I can’t forget NASCAR…lol. Congrats on 100…and I think you will love the floor.

  10. i absolutely love your blog, your knitting inspires me to new highs, I can’t wait to do the Irish Diamond Shawl, but all of your work is totally awesome, You put lots of time, thought and yourself into your blog!!!

  11. One of the best things about your blog is…It’s good to know that I am not alone…I can totally relate and I only have 3 boys-just seems like 5!!!!
I think the YOL will look great on you in your new room. I’m trying to convince myself not to cast on tonight. I need to clean bathrooms, I’m having a sleepover tomorrow with my knitting peeps. No boys allowed!!

  12. Start the new lace! Do I have to name just one thing I like? Dang. Um. Socks? You have made some amazing socks. I love your Kauni sweater. I love that you’re honest enough to post this: https://passingdowncrazy.wordpress.com/2007/09/08/necessities-and-temptations/

Oh and I hate you just a little because I want your craftroom. πŸ˜€

  13. Geez…I love the way you just put it all out there – kids, home, family, trips, crafts. I love your knitting – and am secretly in awe of all that you can get accomplished (oops, guess that’s not such a secret now, huh?).

Most of all, though – I love your Mom…she’s just great! πŸ™‚

  14. I love your blog – no changes – just keep being yourself.

I’m late to the vote, but I’ll say that you’ll be happy with wood. We have tile on the entire ground floor except the office/guest room, which is bamboo. The stairs and entire second floor arewood except for the tile bathrooms. The house came with carpet, but we ripped it over Christmas this year and i’ve never regreted that a moment.

    Love the wallpaper!

  15. I enjoy your finished objects. I’m a slower knitter so I’m glad somebody is finishing something. I also enjoy seeing your studio, I have one of my own but yours is a bit more *ahem* put together than mine. πŸ˜€ Happy 100 posts (upcoming).

  16. I like your blog because you are funny, you post often, you are honest, and you make me happy.

  17. What I like about your blog: great photos, interesting content, and, you’re local.

  18. Of course I love you blog! I get to see some of my grandkids every once in awhile in the pictures. – And I am very proud that you are my daughter. Love you, Mom

  19. Congrats on the 100th post! I love the lace yarn, what a GORGEOUS color! I miss Lexi too, but I love hearing about your family, some knitting, some redecorating!
A bit of a bunch of things is good.

  20. I agree with Liz G….especially re: your mom! πŸ™‚
I also love your honesty. I love that your laundry pile is never better than my laundry pile and that you’re not afraid to admit it!

It’s real life. With pictures. Of beautiful stuff.

    Keep it up!

  21. I love to come read your blog! It’s one of my favorites because I love your projects and your pictures and I think you are funny:) I also like that you put pictures of what you are doing, like your sewing room redo. Stuff like that is really interesting to me and I love to see changes in homes. Also, your posts are always upbeat. I like that even if maybe you aren’t excited or having a good day, your blog doesn’t really reflect that. That is refreshing! But I think you do show real life, a happy real life, one that any mom would love to have:)

    Congratulations on reaching 100!

  22. I love your blog because you are funny and also post beautiful photos. My favorite posts so far were all your UFO/WIP grouped and photographed together.

I look forward to the sewing room update as well as spring in your part of the country….I know it is going to inspire some lovely quilts and knitting.

  23. What’s not to LOVE?! I always enjoy your pictures and perspective on life. But I especially love that you have 5 kids and make crazy feel pretty good to me!

  24. One thing I love the most is your unashamed honesty with all your WIPs and plans! I often feel guilty making more plans than I know I can keep up with, your blog helps me shelve all that! :0)

  25. I discovered your blog recently so I can’t say I’ve read too many posts… but I enjoyed ALL of them! Especially when you show off your gorgeous projects (in progress or completed) or admit to weaknesses that most of us do. Don’t change anything! And I’m also shoving my WIPs aside and just knit whatever I feel like knitting! Congrats on your 100th post!

  26. I enjoy visiting your site almost daily. I really enjoy your quilting blogs and am in awe of your sewing room!!! I have to just admire the knitting projects and not think too much about them because I don’t DARE start another hobby…I already have too many HIPs (hobbies in progress – tee hee). I also love seeing pics of the family and especially the puppy. Congrats on your 100th post!

  27. Congratulations on (almost) 100 posts!

I love how you have a wide variety of projects – especially how many of them seem so ambitious to me.

  28. I love your blog because you are just as wacky as I am. I met you on Ravelry when I did a search looking to see who else was as crazy as I was when I started Koigu Mystique. You were the only other person who came up. I knew right then you were my kind of girl. lol

I really like seeing the diversity of projects that you do. You knit so much faster than I do, I’m always amazed at how fast you can get a project done.

Plus, we both have too many WIP’s to deal with, so it makes me feel not so crazy. πŸ™‚

I look forward each day to seeing what you’re up to, even when it’s just something like wallpapering your sewing room. You have a way with words that is just fun and quirky and and I like seeing your daily adventures in life.

  29. Okay, I did *not* read any of the other comments.

What I like about this blog is YOU. You are real, witty, funny, talented, a mom, a sister, a daughter, and a friend.

It’s a bonus you do fabulous work with quilting and knitting and are so willing to share your projects.
