Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

It’s Monday

I’m trying on the Monday afternoon to figure out how to write an interesting and exciting post.  It’s not going to work.  It’s raining and I’m just boring.

There was knitting this weekend.  In my last post, I mentioned that I started the Firmament Lace Shawl.  I’m now going to rip part of it out for the third time.  I cannot knit this pattern.  It’s ticking me off because I consider myself a fairly intelligent person.  I guess I’m not.  So, I have something to show you.  Does everyone know how to pick up the stitches a ways down, and then unravel?  If you don’t, take a look at this.

All I did was pick up the right leg of every stitch.  I’ll continue all the way around the shawl.  Then I’ll take out the outside circular needle, and unravel back to the lower needle, and all my stitches will be on the needle.  If there’s one person that didn’t know this little trick, it will  be worth it.  It works great with socks, or about anything. It’s easiest on a stockinette section.  I’m getting really good at it on this piece!

We spent the weekend in the motorhome, playing paintball, four wheeling, and doing the bonfire thing.  We had friends out on Saturday, and just hung out.  It was about 60 degrees!  Perfect.

I don’t get the appeal, but the boys could do this for hours!  Even the puppy had a relaxing weekend!

Now I need to go figure out what to do with two pounds of hamburger.  Oh, and I need to pick out a different stitch pattern for the Firmament Lace Shawl.  I’m not ripping that thing again!!!

With any luck, I may have a finished project to show you in a few days!

  1. You know what’s interesting? Each of your photos has royal blue and orange/red in it. Ok, so I’m easily amused – it just caught my eye that it was a pleasing series of photos.

And no, I had not tried that trick of picking up the stitches before ripping. I normally rip to one row above where I want to be, then go around and pick up stitches as I pull the last row out. I will have to try your way – it sounds MUCH easier!

  2. Impossibly Easy Cheeseburger Pie? It’s a Bisquick recipe. I grew up with this recipe when it was “Impossible Taco Pie” and that’s still how we eat it at my house. The pie recipe is the same, we just serve it with all taco fixings and eat it as such.

I’ll shut up now. I mean get back to real work now….

  3. 2 pounds hamburger = nicely sized meatloaf. Glad you had a good weekend and we could use a little rain right now (maybe tonight!)

  4. Hah! We’re both doing the same thing-Firmament, but I’m frogging entirely. While I love the Ravelry photos, it just isn’t doing it for me. I’m not really enjoying the pattern and I think somehow it should have more punch. I’m moving on to Two Old Bags willow Tree because it is here and I’m stash busting 🙂

Truly am so glad I found your blog. Our tastes are so simlar!

  5. You aren’t boring! I like come to your corner of the world! 🙂

  6. That trick is useally hiding somewhere deep in my head – at least it only appears after tossing the knitting around and uttering a few words better left untranslated.

  7. Thanks for another great lace knitting tip.
