Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Bigger Is Better….Right?

I went to a quilt retreat.

I sewed a lot.

I came home.

I sewed some more.

I even skipped church.

I finished.

(I did consume some chocolate, coffee, and Diet Coke in between.  I slept a little bit too.)

I made a king size quilt in three days.  I love it with my new bed.  There are only a couple of problems.

First of all, I was planning on a 115″ quilt with one border.  This quilt is 126″ without a border.  Evidentally, I am incapable of adding.

The second problem is that this quilt isn’t going to live on my bed.  It’s going on the bed of one of my favorite people in the whole world.  Her husband will use it too, but I’ll learn to live with that!!!  They’re on vacation and they’ll be back tonight.  It will be on their bed, unquilted.  It may be hanging on the floor too.  Then I will go to plan B.  I’ll let you know when I come up with a plan B.

Here is her favorite fabric.

The whole quilt is based on this black and tan floral.  It was supposed to have a border with this fabric.

I miss my brain.

I love the quilt.

I’m going now to put it on their bed.  We’ll see if it hangs on the floor.

I. Am. An. Idiot.

  1. Gorgeous quilt!!! The natural browns/tans are perfect!
I’ve made 2 king size quilts in my life – almost lost my mind wrestling them through the machine for quilting!

  2. picture of quilt on favorite person bed and her reaction to the same!!!!!!!!!!!!! It. Is. Gorgeous.

  3. If someone blessed me with a quilt like that, and it hung on the floor…I would buy a bigger bed!! Stunning colors, and I love the pattern!

  4. The quilt is stunning! i love the mixture of traditonal and contemporary flavors in your room. Gorgeous!

  5. Except that if it touches her floor…. it could mean that it’s supposed to be on your bed!!!

  6. If you find your brain can you see if mine is with it? I love the quilt, maybe they can stack some bricks under their bed so it doesn’t drag on the floor! Maybe not, just a suggestion even if it’s not practical. I’m back in your neck of the country, cold weather and all to this California native. I’m hoping for snow and since I’ll be here all week I’m hoping my chances are good. Your so lucky to live in this state!

  7. Hmmm, are you SURE it’s not meant for your bed? It really looks like it wants to live there…but I’m sure she will love it, and find a way to deal with any, umm, drapey-ness.

  8. Oh. My. God.
I sure hope she know how lucky she is to have a special friend like you.
I love the colors and the print. You are very talented to put together this beautiful quilt in a weekend. Go rest now.

  9. WOW! that is a beautiful quilt…good work on 3 days!! 🙂 it does look great in your room though! love the bed!

  10. And why does it need a border? I like it just fine without. The triangles at the edge are a border. Was she thrilled? You are good.

  11. The quilt is gorgeous, especially with your new bed. Hope it looks as good on your friend’s bed, and I hope she knows what a lucky person she is!

  12. Beautiful! Really, why do you need a border? 😀 That said, sometimes things happen for a reason.

  13. Hey Maria, I’ve finally had a chance to catch up on your blogs. This quilt turned out gorgeous! I love it! I want to find a way to make it onto your special friend list!

  14. Ooops! Gorgeous quilt, though!
