Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

I Had An Idea

Before I tell you what my new idea is, let me first apologize to everyone that has commented in the last month or so.  I’ve been horrible about responding to comments.  If you’re one of the people that commented, I just want you to know that I love your comments, and I’ve most likely made it over to your blog to take a look (if you have a blog!).  So please know that the comments are a ton of fun and I appreciate each one!

Now on to my idea.  I love it when I read a blog and they have nicknames for each family member.  I decided that I could do much better than Kid 1, etc.  So over the next couple of weeks, I’m going to do a blog post on each member of the family.  You’ll also see why each person has the nickname they do.  Kid 1 (for now) helped me brainstorm last night.  There were some less than flattering nicknames that came up, but since I’m trying to turn my kids into decent human beings, and not scar them for life, some names have been deleted.

So, without further rambling, I’d like to introduce you to My Hero.  ( I edited the name because I changed my mind.  I can if I want to!)

He’s My Hero for a lot of reasons.  The main reason he’s My Hero is because he puts up with me.  He even loves me!  He likes to fix problems.   If there’s something he can fix for anyone, he’s a happy man.  My Hero is one of the nicest people I know.  He’s crabby about once a year, and is extremely generous.  I’m very blessed!  It’s been 22 years, and I’m keeping him.  He has two hobbies; work and hanging out with kids.  (He wanted six kids, but I was done after five!!!)  He’s recovering from his bout with shingles, but still has one big spot above his eye.

My Hero is seen here wearing his My Hero sweater.  The yarn is Rowan Yorkshire Tweed Aran, colorway Hero.  The yarn is discontinued.  And don’t ask me how much yarn I used, because I have no idea.

Oh, and I fell off the wagon at 1:30AM last night and started something new.

I’ll tell you about it soon!  I have to go pick up Kid 5 from school.

  1. That is a great idea! I look forward to seeing all your nicknames. I have a nickname for my husband that I created before we were even dating. I have him in my cell phone as HB3. It sounds like a super hero name to me… hehe.. although I rarely call him that to his face.

  2. Your husband’s sweater turned out very nicely!

  3. Ugh- I’ll never be able to keep track of your brood now!! Oh, well. I’ll just sit back and enjoy your knitting and funny stories. The sweater looks as good on Honey as I thought it would. (Sorry. I’m a slow learner, and creature of habit. It’ll take me a while to change gears.)I have a very special nickname for my husband, but I never, ever utter it in public, nor does he have any idea I know such words…..I save it for very special occasions when he commits a spectacular blunder…such as sinking the boat!

  4. the sweater and T.B.E. are stunning! what a lovely job you have done.
Cant wait to see what the new project is!
    take care.

  5. Does My Hero have a single brother? He sounds like a real gem of a guy, a real keeper! The sweater looks great. Can’t wait to see what you are working on.

  6. O.K. first of all, if you ARE reading my blog, please comment if you find anything worthy of commenting on. 🙂 I mean seriously, we all like comments. Secondly, 1:30 AM does not constitute “last night.” That sentence should read, “I fell off the wagon in the wee hours of the morning.” 🙂 Don’t all great things happen in the wee hours of the morning? Keep knitting, my friend. You do great work!

  7. Your Hero looks terribly heroic in the photo – and the sweater’s not bad, either! :o)

  8. I also have nicknames for my son & Hubby on my blog. My son actually picked out his nickname, and Hubby’s is his real-life nickname. I read a blog once where she nicknamed her kids Thing 1 and Thing 2, which I got quite a chuckle over. Your Hero’s sweater turned out beautifully and he looks so proud wearing it!
