Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

I’d Like Some Cheese With My Whine

I’m knitting like crazy.  I really am.  But it’s killing me.

I’m almost finished with my first sleeve on my Damask Kauni.  It’s so hard to finish something that I’m not going to wear.  It’s destined to live here:

Oh, well.  At least it has friends.  But a sweater wants to be worn and cuddled.  At least in my dining room it will be admired.  I think when it’s done I’ll really enjoy just looking at it.

Hiding behind Kauni (besides the shawl from Helen) is the other project that I’m working on that I can’t wait to finish!!!  It’s Cluaranach by Anne Hanson.  I ordered the yarn and pattern a long time ago, and for some reason it’s been calling me.  I started it and wasn’t thrilled because I had to knit in pattern on the back side instead of purling.  I’m lazy.  I like that break every other row.  Then I discovered that it’s only patterned on the back for the first few repeats.  Now I’m sailing.

I’m using the recommended yarn, Lanas Puras Melosa, and it’s heavenly.  I’m almost finished with the first half.  Here’s a rather uninspired photo of it.

I suppose I should unpack my suitcase.  It’s been sitting there since Saturday night.  And for some odd reason, my family thinks they should have dinner tonight.  (Last night the kids that were home ate cereal.  Hey, Nascar was on!)

Startitis has hit again too!  I’m trying to drown it in Diet Coke, but it’s hard.  Oh, and the quilting bug has surfaced after being gone for a very long time.

But first, I have to go be an adult for a few hours.  Thanks for letting me whine about my Damask Kauni.  I’m going to finish that thing if it kills me.  Do you think anyone would notice if it only had one sleeve?

  1. Yeah Mattie won!!! Although I could only call up a little squeak, severe sore throat and loss of voice. He’s on a roll!!

I would love to have the sweater to display in any room of my house!

  2. Are you going to let that quilting bug out on friday? I think I will!

  3. I don’t think the last photo of Cluaranach is uninspiring, rather it’s got me thinking about putting the pattern in my Rav Favorites. The yarn looks heavenly.

I got bit by the quilting bug again over the weekend too. It felt good to break out the sewing machine and fabric after so long (a year and a half for me).

  4. wow- you continue to amaze me Maria. When you get tired of the damask kauni (which I realize may never happen!!) our church auction would take it in a heart beat! – or your church auction or any yarn shop or ??? I’m thinking like this as our church auction for the youth mission trip is coming up this weekend. I’m giving a scarf or two. . . Maybe someday you can really wear it? I’m trying here. . . It’s gorgeous!

  5. The new knit is looking beautiful! I’m the same way, always taken aback if I have to knit pattern on the wrong side row. :o)

  6. Holy Cow!!!
That is too beautiful NOT to wear!!!

  7. That sweater is amazing, fit or no fit. I could make a comment on every one of your knitting projects. I can not knit to save my life. I admire your knitting mojo. Go girlfriend!

  8. The sweater is gorgeous and anyone would be proud to own it. You could use it to raise funds for any cause you like. A raffle to benefit your preferred charity or cause with the sweater as a grand prize could raise a LOT of money!
