Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Half of My Life

As of today I’ve been married to My Hero for half of my life.  To avoid the need for anyone to do math, I’ll just tell you that I’m 46 and it’s our 23rd anniversary.

Yep!  23 years.  22 of them happily.  I could have done without the first year!

I can honestly say that My Hero is the nicest person I know.  I am not.  I’m still hoping that “nice” will rub off on me!  If I ask him to do some mundane task like emptying the trash compactor, his standard answer is, “I’d be honored”.  He’s crabby once a year.  He’s yelled at me twice in 23 years.  When yarn and fabric shows up in our house, he looks the other way, or oohs and ahhs appropriately.  And he’s really funny.  It’s a rare day that I don’t laugh at or with him.

More importantly, he’s a man of God that is supportive of me and a great example to our children.  He’s my best friend!  I’m looking forward to the next 50 years!

Hey honey!  You rock!

  1. Happy Anniversary to you both! He sounds like a wonderful man! Sounds like you’ve decided to keep him. Good move! 🙂

  2. Looks like you’ve got a keeper! I’ve had mine for 18 years and he’s yelled at me (with reason) just a couple of times. The first time was on our wedding night when I’m trying to show off my negligee from my bridal shower and he wanted to watch the movie, “The Untouchables” AGAIN and when I mentioned that someone died at the end, he yelled at me for ruining the show. Needless to say, I was scared of who I’ve married and locked myself in the bathroom, sobbing, for the next hour. Boy, did I make him feel bad! And that is how I became a Kevin Costner fan!

  3. Congratulations to the two of you, and may your dream of 50 more anniversaries come true.

  4. Congrats, may the next 50 be as grand as the last 22.

  5. Congratulations! You guys look so cute together!

  6. Congratulations.
Yes, I think my daughter married the perfect mate for her. And I also agree that he is funny and fun!
    Love you both, Mom

  7. Congrats!…and many more to come. When you find the one that fits….fight for him with everything you’ve got! May God continue to Bless your marraige and family.

  8. A heartfelt Happy Anniversary.

You two make a beautiful couple, inside and out.

    ; )

  9. how wonderful — congratulations!! You both are very lucky … and I’ll be going on 32 years this year!

    PS nice shawl, too 🙂

  10. Congrats, I have also been married to my husband for half my life. I think that it’s a miracle in todays world. I just turned 40. Wow 40 is a big number. I was also curious as to what happened to the red in your hair?

  11. Happy Anniversary to you both! What a nice tribute to your other half. I like the part about turning the other way when yarn & fabric arrive and ooohing & ahhing. My Hubby must have went to the same school as Hero to learn that.

  12. How wonderful for both of you! Happiest of wishes for 50 more years–at least!

  13. Congratulations, guys! I am printing off Honey’s standard reply to your requests for help with ‘chores’ and posting on my fridge.
Failing that, do you suppose The Big Guy could hang with Honey for a bit, see if any ‘nice’ rubs off on him?? (Not that he’s not nice…but there is certainly no ‘looking the other way’ when yarn comes in the house….)
Oops, look at that; I slipped back into the past with the name! I think I miss “Honey”!

  14. Congratulations! May God continue to bless you both in the many years to come. I remember when my husband and I knew each other for half our lives and it is a remarkable milestone.

  15. Oh I wish I had remembered. Congratulations. And I have to agree you’ve got a keeper- but so does he. A Betty

  16. Another Derby Day Bride I presume? Ours was Derby day 1993, which was May 1st. I can’t believe how many Derby Day brides there are. The day of our wedding a horse called Kissin’ Kris ran. How apropos for our wedding day, cause my groom was Kissin’ Chris!

  17. Happy Anniversary! Did you think that maybe it’s just you that brings out the best in him? My hubby and I have been married 43 years, and I’m still looking forward to the next 50 years, too. When mine sees more wool or fabric, he says: “Oh, more insulation. That’ll cut down the heating bills next winter.

  18. Abundant Blessings.

  19. Congratulations on your 23 year — and here’s to at least those 50 more!

  20. Happy Anniversary, you two! 🙂

  21. I think you are both great! Happy Anniversary and Congratulations, again. (Not again today as I did not get a call in, just again because 23 years is awesome!) Hope it was a happy day!

  28. What a beautiful testament to your love. I’m looking forward to when I will have spent more of my life with my husband than without.

  29. That’s the best tribute I’ve ever heard. He sounds like a great man.

  30. Happy belated anniversary! I’m with you. That first year is like the first pancake! A good one to throw out! 🙂

  31. Happy Anniversary! He sounds like a good man to have around!

  32. Crabby once a year? No wonder you are gripping his arm tight. No getting away for that man! =) Congratulations~ I hope it was fantastic. But I suppose I don’t need to hope, surely it was.

  33. I’ve been reading your blog for months and I believe you are one of the luckiest people. You have the mate that most women only dream about! Congratulations…….and many more!

  34. Congrats on 23 years! I’ll be a lot older when I’ll have been married half my years, so I won’t be as cute as you guys 🙂 Isn’t it great to have a “keeper” and a best friend? Such a blessing.
