Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Where Am I?

And what day is it?  We’ve logged about 3,500 miles, my memory is going!  (And yes, there’s knitting at the end of the post!)

Actually, we’re here!

This is the view out of our windshield!

I totally missed telling you about one stop.  We spent two days in Myrtle Beach, SC.  It was the total opposite of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  It was fun, but maybe not the highlight.

Yesterday was my day!  If you’ve read this blog at all, you’ll know that I’m a huge Nascar fan.  (I’m watching the race right now while waiting for the very slow internet!!!)  We toured Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC in a 15 passenger van.  We even did a lap around the track at 90 miles per hour!  It was really interesting.

The kids thought this photo was hilarious, because My Hero is turning 50 in a few months.

We also toured the Hendrick Motorsports Museum.

If you’re not a Nascar fan, you don’t care who I cheer for.  If you are a fan, now you know!!!

Now for the knitting.  My Eyelet Cardi is moving along.  I did a picot hem.

The neck and the fronts are finished as well.  I’m really pleased with the way this looks.  It hasn’t even been steamed yet.

I need to be on the lookout for a button.  Now it’s just a mind numbing amount of stockinette to finish the sleeves.

We have one more stop this week in western Virginia, and then we’re off to Ohio, and My Hero is back to work.  We’ll be home sometime next weekend.  The kids are getting a little edgy sharing 300 square feet.  Traveling is fun, but there’s no place like home.  Oh, and we only have 9 states left, and we will have been in all 48 continental states.

I’m going to knit on those sleeves for a while and watch the rest of the Nascar race.  Life is good.

  1. What a great way for your family to spend time together and get an education along the way. I guess the knitting is a perk.

The cardi is looking really nice. I hope you find cool buttons for it.

I’m doing the Twist cardigan from Twist Collection. Also bought Cassidy, Rebecca and Wisteria. Great patterns!

  2. Sounds like you’re having a great time. I love Tennessee! Your sweater looks fantastic!

  3. I took my family to do that tour of Lowe’s Motor Speedway when they visited. That van ride was awesome! We did the Hendrick Motorsports thing too. My mom is a huge Jeff Gordon fan and absolutely loved it!

  4. A few years ago our family did an extended tour of Virgina and Tennessee at Christmas time. The Bristol Track grounds are FULL of holiday lights and you drive zigzag around the parking lot at night and on the drag track and through an area of the concourse and end up ON THE TRACK to drive a LAP!!!! Talk about a cool Nascar moment! It was just about the coolest thing we have done!! We had no idea that we were going to get to drive the track. (P.S. The Windstar made a great lap!)

  5. I’m tired just keeping track of your travels! None of the kids have run away yet, then? Sign of a great trip! GREAT picture of you guys with the Nascar sign- you should frame that for him for his b-day.

  6. Love this sweater but don’t want to knit forever with Dk yarn. I found that the Sitcom Chic pattern is the same one in worsted weight (and it is free on Knitty).
Great picture of your 2 favorite 50’s.

  7. i’m a fan of whoever is driving the M&M car!

  8. Ok, I am looking at the 2 patterns. Sitcom Chic is knit bottom up while eyelet cardi is knit top down.

  9. You sound like you are haing a great time! We are 5 minutes from the TN line in Western KY – but I bet you didn’t come anywhere close – sounds like you went up the eastern side. Your posts and pictures from Washington DC really made me want to take my children and see for myself. I hope that one day soon we’ll get to make a similar trip! Thanks for sharing your adventures!

    PS – Beautiful sweater!

  10. Looks like you’re having a great trip! I’ve got a couple of Jeff Gordon fans in this house as well. Your Eyelet Cardi is looking great. I’ve wanted to knit that for a while but I never have gotten to it. It will make a great all purpose sweater… and I love the color you’re using. (I feel a copycat moment coming on.)

Enjoy the rest of your trip. 🙂

  11. I don’t suppose swinging through Illinois is on your list??? hint hint

  12. Welcome back to the south, y’all. Glad to have you back. It looks as though you are having a wonderful time as usual. The cardi looks pretty, too!
