Playing With Color

I love playing with fabric.  I love the color, the texture, the way it talks to me.  Just look at this!

This is Hushabye by Tula Pink for Moda.  I started a quilt last night.  It’s my avoidance tactic…and it worked!

I made eight squares and layed them out on the floor before I went to bed (at 2 AM).

This morning I got up and looked at what I’d done.

My plan was to stick with the fabrics that are taupe, aqua, pink, and white.  Sounds like a good plan, huh?  It’s boring!  Now look at this!

So much better.  It needs that limey green that doesn’t match!  It just adds sparkle.  Fortunately, I’d only cut the fabric for the first eight blocks.  So, guess what I’m going to do today?  The sun is shining and making the snow all sparkly, and the view out my sewing room window is gorgeous. I may even see a bunny or two frolicking around.

Yep!  There’s one.

I’m off to the laundry sewing room!

  1. Love those fabrics ~ and usually I go for BOLD AND BRIGHT but these are so French they catch my eye!

PS There’s a fat Robin the size of my parrot sitting in the crab apple tree outside my home office window. The robins love that little tree and the dried crab apples and then they love to jump into the little pond waterfall to catch a quick bath. No snow in NM today!

Can’t wait to see the finished quilt! Keep Stitching with a Smile!

  2. I’m a brighter the better person too when it comes to quilts but I like that combination. It feels muted and restful.

  3. WONDERFUL! I absolutely agree about the green adding sparkle. Moda never disappoints, nor do you!!! I wonder what it is about the month of January that entices one to leave one’s knitting and have an affair with the spring quilting cottons! Your lovely blocks answered that question! BTW, the pic of Georgie’s nose was adorable. And yes, Jack tilts his head from side to side as if to ask, whhhhhaaaatt?

  4. The color combination is just amazing. As being synesthete I live a life in colors. Synesthesia means that I see colors when I see words and numbers.I transform this in paintings of names and birthdays.

  5. And where’s this one going? Come over and have a look at my last post; you may see something you like. (Hint: bring Frankie) Cotton Picker has something to show off too!

  6. I love the addition of the other colors. You’re so right…it needs the pop. I hope you had a great day sewing and stayed out of the laundry room!

  7. Oh those colors are stunning!! Lovely!!

  8. that limey green is what I call the “crazy aunt” fabric…you know the relative that brings the life to the family party…the aunt who everyone is still talking about at Easter…lol
