Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Kauni Jackpot!!!

I hit the jackpot yesterday!

Let me back up.  I live in a very small town.  99% of the time I love it.  It’s easy.  The name of my street and my town are the same.  That’s small town for ya!  It’s 10 blocks to the grocery store, a mile to church, 9 blocks to Dairy Queen or the gas station.  You get the idea.

But sometimes I feel like this!

I loved this story!

Anyway, I went to the big city yesterday.  And look what I found!

I got not just one, but two new colors of Kauni!

I’m not so sure about this color, but the rainbow Kauni is pretty scary in a ball, and look what it does!

I went to Needlework Unlimited, looking for Jamieson Shetland Spindrift to coordinate with the Kauni I already have.  You know….for the secret project!  The Jamieson yarn comes in 199 colors and I knew they have a color card.  I was pretty thrilled to see Kauni.  They’d just gotten it in the day before.  And….they’re the only store in Minnesota that has it.  I didn’t totally clean them out.  There are more colors there.  They also have 8 skeins of the rainbow color.

I also bought three skeins of Noro Silk Garden.

It hasn’t told me what it wants to be yet, but I knew it wanted to come home with me.  (It’s color 279)

We’re having a lazy day here today.  The kids finished school yesterday.  They had their last piano lessons.  It’s officially summer!  They’re all hanging out doing nothing.  And the dog…lets just say she got into some cookie dough.  She’s restricted to the bathroom right now. I’m sure you wanted to know that, didn’t you?

Guess what I’m doing (besides blogging)?  Why, knitting.  Of course!  Look what I dug out!

The Looking Glass sweater is going to be done this weekend….maybe.  I have one sleeve down and one to go.  I’m not going to do the button band the way the pattern is written.  It’s a cable band that’s sewn on.  I’m just going to pick up stitches and go for it.  Boring!!! I think there’s enough going on with the color on the yoke.  I also did a hem.  More later!

I think it’s time to go be lazy with the kids!  I suppose I should come up with something to feed them for dinner tonight too, huh?  They had pizza last night while I was in the big city!!!  Ha!  I sound like such a country bumpkin!  Maybe I am.

  1. Dinner tonight? We’re having hoagies (submarine sandwiches like Subway or Quiznos sells). I recommend them heartily!

  2. What pattern is that fair isle? It’s gorgeous!

  3. beautiful Kauni which is one of my favorites, would you care to share the color numbers I am plugging a long with a beaded pi, and then its on to my sister’s sweater, nothing new until I get those too things finished. Her sweater is the Romantic bed Jacket by JMM

  4. Beautiful yarn! I love what it does. Did you see Wendy Johnson at Needlework Unlimited? I read on her blog that she was going to be there signing books. I’m traveling to Woodbury tomorrow (Sat.) to visit my sister, but I don’t think I’ll have time to make it over there – much as I’d like to.

  5. What a great acquisition! 😀 Lovely yarn and knitting! We just had spanish chicken and rice with green chiles and green olives. (yum)

  6. All right feeling totally stupid how does the Kauni work? Are you knitting in the pattern or does it seem to naturally occur? It is so pretty that I am dazzled by it.
