Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

The Addictive Power of Fabric…and Yarn!

I was sitting around yesterday morning, feeling very unmotivated.  Because I was avoiding laundry, I decided to clean my sewing room instead.  At least that made it sound like I was busy and productive.

It’s amazing what you find when you clean.  I found another quilt that already has the binding on, and it just needs to be stitched down.  I also pieced 3 quilt backs and 3 bindings.  (Now if I could just find the motivation to quilt them!)

Guess what I’m working on now?

Yep, it’s the quilt that I made for Dreamboy that he deemed too girly.  It’s also not big enough for his monstrously huge mattress!  So I’ll press on.  I decided I’d rather make more blocks than add borders.  I’m still holding out hope that once it’s quilted and I’ve found the perfect brown corduroy pillows, and I’ve completely covered it with a duvet cover for his down comforter, that he’ll be happy with it.  Or at least forget about it!

This charm pack jumped out of the cabinet as I was putting something else away.

This is Happy by Me and My Sister for Moda.  I have an idea for a cute little quilt.  I have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but these fabrics make me happy.  Get it????  (That’s the name of the fabric, if you’re behind on your coffee intake.)

I also started a Christmas project with the vague hope that it will be quilted by next Christmas.

The pattern is from a new book called Simplify by Camille Roskelley of Thimbleblossoms.  The fabric is Figgy Pudding by Basic Grey……for Moda.  (Have you noticed by now that I’m a Moda fan?)

Yes, I’ve been knitting.  I saw a sock pattern a few days ago that I thought was really cute.   Today Cristi posted a tutorial and I got sucked in.  We’ll just forget for a moment that I started a sock a few weeks ago and haven’t touched it since.  We’ll also ignore the fact that I’m 47 and have my own personal built in furnace and I wore socks once last winter, even though I live in Minnesota.

I just had to start the sock.

Just look at that cuff.  I had to try it.  It’s brilliant.  I’m thinking this edging needs to be on the bottom of a cardigan I want to start tonight after I finish my Hypernova shawl.  Anyway, the pattern is Bleeding Hearts.  The tutorial is on Cristi’s blog.  It’s amazing.  You have to try it.

Whew!  Now it’s time for a 20 minute power nap.  Then its an eye appointment for one kid, piano lessons, making dinner, and a science test that we should have been studying for all week.  Oh, and Bible verses and spelling words.  And I’m sure there will be some bickering in the middle of all of it.

At least my sewing room is relatively clean!

  1. you just continue to amaze AND motivate me! (Will you please send me your snail mail address so that I can fire off a payment to you? Paypal is not cooperating for me.) What I especially appreciate Maria, is that you have this HUGE life with a large active family and you STILL find the time to scout out great patterns and yarns.
