Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Mini Vacation And Knitting

I made a quick trip to Savannah to see The Genius last weekend.  My aunt came with me, and we met up with Mom and one of my sister-in-laws.  We ate, shopped, knit, ate some more, slept way too little, and enjoyed the fabulous weather.

It was my turn for a surprise.  I spun this yarn for my mom for Christmas.

Since then, I’ve thought to ask her about what she was planning to make, but kept forgetting.  She surprised me in Savannah by showing me her finished shawl.

The pattern is Wandering the Moor.  I love how it turned out, and it’s making me want to do some more spinning.  The Genius would be thrilled if I’d do just that, since the roving I’m working on is her Christmas present.  She’ll be home for spring break in a few weeks, so I’d better get on that!

We stayed in a gorgeous Bed & Breakfast.  My aunt loved this view out the window in the morning.

What a great reminder that God is still in control.

I didn’t think I knit a lot on the trip, but I made a shawl with one skein of Handmaiden Sea Silk.  Here’s a teaser.

It really should have had beads, but I just didn’t want to mess with them while traveling.  I’ll do a photo shoot when it’s dry.

This week it’s back to kids with yucky colds and nasty icy roads.  That’s ok though, because there’s no place I’d rather be.  I have some cleaning and sorting projects going on, and some knitting to work on.  I also have to get back to a few quilting projects.  And I really love to be wherever My Hero is.  That may sound sappy, but he’s at the top of my “favorite people in the whole world” list.

I’m blessed.

Oh, and it’s time to take down the Christmas/Valentine’s tree.  The kids were lobbying for a 4th of July tree, but it’s just not going to happen.

  1. I just stole your photos so I can finally put something on Ravelry. Thanks for the great vacation.

  2. I think I know that shawl I made in January from some cashmere Tommo gave me for Christmas!!! Your red one is pretty, and the yarn you made your mom is gorgeous as is her shawl!

  3. Oh, wow, this is amazing! You always make me want to get my spinning wheel out and get busy! 🙂

  4. Your Moms shawl looks beautiful. Good combination, your spinning & her knitting. The name of the pattern, Wandering the Moor, could also be the color of the wool.

  5. Your moms shawl is wonderful! Your handspun and this pattern are a perfect fit. The stripes came out beautifully!
