Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Saturday Shenanigans

Yup!  I’m going to dye stuff again today!  But first, here is the result of my black walnut dyeing.

It looks pretty on the wood bench in the sun, but who wants to wear that color???  I think I’m going to dye it green today.  Oh, well.  It was a fun experiment.

The other day I took some pink yarn that was actually an ugly mauve pink as opposed to a pretty pink in the photo

and I cooked it!

It ended up a gorgeous true purple.

I also started dyeing 100% wool fabric for an appliqué project I have planned.  It worked really well, so today I need to dye the big pieces I need for the background.  I have a plan that I think will work to consistently dye 2 yards of the stuff!  I want it mottled so it looks hand dyed, and not something I purchased in a store.

I’d better get busy.  Looking at the forecast, I think this may be our last 60 degree day until April.

Have a blessed weekend!

  1. Actually, I think that your walnut yarn is stunning! It’s a fantastic neutral (for me anyway 😉 and it makes a great background for autumn shades in stranded knitting.

I don’t suppose you’d be interested in trading?

  2. I like that color too. I think it would look great with a nice orange or green.

  3. I too love the walnut yarn – beautiful natural colour! Lisa L.

  4. Maria- I’m fascinated by the effects you can get with natural dyes. I hope you do more.
