Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

What Is Mystery Knitting?

Yes, I do occasionally knit the yarn I spin!

About a month ago, I read about a mystery knit-along from Stephen West of West Knits.  I thought it sounded like fun, but I wanted to spin the yarn for it.  I spun the brown yarn right away and loved the way it turned out.  Then I started on the colored yarn.  I spun three different things, and finished the last yarn the night before the first clue came out.  I hated it too, but decided to try it.  Here are the two yarns I decided to use.

Kinda ugly, right?  I started knitting, and here’s the first clue completed.

I absolutely love it.  I can’t wait to see what the next clue will bring.

If you’re not familiar with mystery knits, you’re given clues before it starts to help you pick out yarn.  In this case, a step in the process is given out each Friday for four weeks.  This is the first of four clues.

I love this project so much, I started Spectra, another Stephen West pattern.

And now, it’s time to grab my knitting and watch NASCAR!

  1. This looks like the round pillows we used to knit in the 60’s. You gather the black end on each side, sew a button in the middle and you have a nifty pillow.

  2. Look how beautiful that turned out! Who knew! Sometimes you really can’t judge a yarn until you start knitting something with it, the “ugly duckling” theory. If I were doing mystery knitting, I’d be very excited about the next clue, too. Can’t wait to see it completed. Have a great week!
