Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

Happy New Year…Two Weeks Ago!

Wow!  I don’t even know where to start.  My last post was December 11th.  A lot has happened since then.  Here’s a quick synopsis.

On December 14th, Superblonde came home from college.  The Genius flew in on December 18th and we celebrated Christmas with My Hero’s family.  A very fun day was had by all!!!

The next 10 days were filled with food, laughing, staying up late, and celebrating with my sisters family.  It was a very relaxing break for all of us.  We travel almost every year for Christmas, but because we just spend Thanksgiving with my family, we opted to stay home.

Dreamboy used his newly knit stocking for the first time!

Stockings are a big deal with our family.  No matter where we travel, our stockings go with us.  Four of us have beautifully cross stitched stockings, but the younger kids have old hand me downs from my siblings.  I just ran out of cross stitch mojo after having too many kids!  So this fall, I cranked out a knit stocking.  The pattern is called HoHoHo.  And who doesn’t love a free pattern.  I hit my trusty stash of Cascade 220 to knit this.  I like it for the most part.  For some reason, the foot looks a little long to me, but Dreamboy is happy with it.  And yes, for those of you who are even the slightest bit observant, he’s a hunter.  Hence the reindeer on the stocking.

I think one of my favorite days of our entire vacation was spent with Superblonde and The Genius, hanging out in my bedroom knitting.  There was lots of laughing!!!  The girls then decided to go through two drawers of old pictures.  Great memories!  The other kids would come in and make fun of us knitting and then leave again.  I’m really enjoying the kids growing up and turning into decent human beings!!!

I completed another project.  I think it was before Christmas, but I’m not really sure!!!  In November I spun this yarn:

The fiber was from the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin’ Whorl club.  One strand is BFL and the other is merino and silk.  I decided to knit Lichen with it.

It was a really fun knit, and I love the colors.

Well, that’s just a quick overview of the last month.  I’ll be back soon with another finished project.  It only took me six years to knit!!!

Insert Pithy Title Here

I have a terrible time coming up with interesting titles!  I guess today’s should be Stitching, Quilting, Knitting, and Laundry.  That title would have really grabbed you, huh?  Not so much.

I finished a knitting project and blocked it a week ago, but I’m not terribly excited about it.

I haven’t figured out how to wear it.  See that hunk hanging down?  That’s what it kind of looks like on me too.  I’ll have to play with a shawl pin to see if I can improve the look.  Otherwise it will add color to the pile of shawls in my cupboard.

Pattern:  Caireen, a free pattern from Knitty.

Yarn: Gaia from Blue Moon Fiber Arts.  Heavenly!

And then there’s stitching.  I’ve been digging through cupboards in my sewing room and finding all sorts of treasures I’d forgotten about.  I’m not big on hand work, but I found a project I’d started several years ago, and I still want it in my kitchen.

I’m thinking these happy little flowers and some coffee will do wonders for my morning!  I’m so not a morning person.

I’ve also got another quilt on the longarm.  I know!  That’s the second one this week!  And I’m jumping out of my box and not doing a panto on it.  We’ll see if I’m smiling or crying when it’s done.

My other fun project for the day is digging out the laundry room.  Everything has just piled up in there over Christmas.  You can’t even see my pretty washer and dryer.  Lets just say the red washer and dryer haven’t made doing laundry a lot more fun.  I do really like them though.

I’d better get back to the laundry room.  Break time is over!
