Passing Down Crazy

Because Sometimes the Best Thing You Can Give Your Kid is an Addiction…To Yarn

I Slept So Good!

I have a new quilt on my bed!

My kids can’t figure out how their friends can sleep without a quilt on their beds.  They do feel so nice!

I love scalloped borders.  It takes a little more time, but it’s well worth it!

I started out with a total different idea when making this quilt, so I don’t have a pattern.  The fabric is Sweet by Urban Chicks for Moda.

This quilt makes me think spring….even though we just got another 10 inches of snow.

Gotta go!  There are ladies here ready to quilt.

Miles and Miles of Thread

This is where I spend a lot of my day yesterday.  I started quilting this last week, and I was determined to finish it!

I haven’t quilted anything since before Christmas, so what do I start on?  A king size quilt thats 116 inches square. I finished it at about 11 PM.  Dreamboy was ready to kick me out, because the longarm is in his bedroom.  (Actually, his bed is in my longarm room.  I was there first.)  I took the quilt upstairs and laid it out to look at it.  Then I just kind of shoved it out of the way and went to bed.

Here’s where the kids found Georgie this morning.

My project for today is to get the binding on it.  The hand stitching is going to take a while.  I’m thinking I’m going to scallop the borders.

I’ve been finding some stuff while digging through my sewing room that will offer further proof that I’m crazy.  More on that later!

I need to dig through a bunch of unfinished knitting projects too.  I’ll bet I can find some things I want to finish and maybe a few to frog.

I also found out that quilting and cleaning don’t go together.  My house is a mess.  I suppose I should do something about that today as well!

Time to get moving….maybe!  I should knit just a few rows first.  My knitting has been neglected this week!

Peace and Adrenalin

Those two words don’t go together, do they?  Except that’s what happens when I have time in my sewing room.  (The peace may have something to do with the fact that The Bickersons are all in school!)

The first project I tackled yesterday was a Block Of The Month.

This is the Designer Mystery Block of The Month from Fat Quarter Shop.    I was not going to sign up for this BOM, because I’m notoriously bad at getting them done.  Then I saw the first block, which was the Christmas gifts.  I was sold!  I’ve never done a BOM through Fat Quarter Shop before.  Let me just say that I’m really impressed.    The instructions are so well done and they’re extremely generous with the fabric.  I think there are a lot of the months that I could make a second block, especially if I ordered extra background fabric.  Each month is designed by a different designer.  For instance, the bottom right tree block was designed by my friend Heather of Anka’s Treasures.

Here’s a closer look at a couple of the blocks.

Now I have to wait for the next block.  That’s part of the reason I’m not great with BOM programs.  I’m an instant gratification kind of a gal.  Oh, well!!!

After that, I decided I wanted to try to make a Dresden Plate block.  I’ve been quilting for 25 years and I’ve never made one.  I bought the ruler a long time ago and lost it, so I bought another one!  I had to hunt for that one too.  I was going to use some scrap fabric, but I wanted it to be pretty.  So…I grabbed my Luna Notte Layer cake and started cutting.  Here’s my first Dresden Plate.

Aunt B, you were wrong!!!  This is really fun and easy!

I  played around with borders a bit too.

This is where the adrenalin part comes in for me.  By the time I was done digging through my Moda cupboard and getting more ideas, I was wired.

So wired that I went to bed at 3 AM.

Today, I’m doing laundry and sewing.  And making cookies.  It’s Frankie’s 10th birthday tomorrow and he wants to take cookies to school for his treat.  For dinner he wants a Papa Murphy’s Barbecue Chicken Pizza on The Big Green Egg.  That could be interesting.

This weekend we’re doing a little camping and four wheeling for Frankie’s birthday.  He’s bringing a friend and they’ll be busy guys.  That means I’ll have time to knit!  I started a new project, but I want to get a little further before I show you.  It looks like a blob at this point.

Gotta go reload the washing machine!  And all those little Dresden pieces are calling me.
