Gasp! A Hand Knit Sweater!

This is a momentous occasion!  I’m finally wearing a sweater that I knit.  Usually they end up on a shelf, never to be worn.  Oh…I’m not looking very awake, am I?

This is Flyaway.  This was really fun to knit.  The cables kept it from being a mind numbingly boring stockinette sweater.  The yarn is one of my favorites….Yowza from Miss Babs.

The sweater is knit top down, with cables setting off the raglan sleeves.  The cables then continue down the side seams.

There is also a larger cable down the center back.  There are increases on either side of the center cable to make it a swing style.

The only modification I made to the pattern was to do more increases at the center front.  The sweater is a little big for me, but it’s next to the skin soft and very comfortable to wear.  And the yarn is super wash.  To block it, I just put it on a delicate rinse and spin in the washing machine.  I threw it in the dryer for about 5 minutes and then blocked it.

Right now I’m working on the Rosemary Hill mystery shawl.  I’m part way through part 3.  I’m using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in the Cousteau color way.  The shawl will be two colors, but I haven’t decided what my second color will be.  I bought purple to go with it, but I have some pond scum green that I kind of like with it.  Gray or black may be ok too.

And just in case you need some inspiration to make dinner, here’s what we ate on Easter Sunday!

I only added the photo because I saw it on my phone.  We had venison, potatoes, and green bean bundles.  The green beans were my favorite part.

And now I need to make myself take a power nap a cup of coffee and go finish sewing grass!

  1. Love the sweater!! I’m still intimidated by sweaters and socks — all that shaping and increasing/decreasing- that I haven’t dared to try it yet… though I’m tempted to very soon 🙂 Maybe this year sometime after my boring blanket is done 🙂

  2. That’s a beautiful sweater and the color is so pretty. I’m still not up to cables yet but I’m almost ready to try them.

  3. Wow! You are beautiful and your sweater is stunning! The color is amazing. Great yarn pattern pairing.

  4. I love it! It looks like something that I would wear everyday! 🙂

  5. your sweater looks lovely and so comfy!

  6. Great sweater – it’s much prettier on that it looked in the blocking picture. Must be the model!

  7. Beautiful sweater, the colours really suit you – love the colour you’re using for the mystery shawl too.
